India’s trade with ASEAN nations tops $128 billion amid pact review push
India's trade with ASEAN countries reached $128 billion in 2025-26 as both sides continue reviewing their trade in goods agreement.
India’s bilateral trade with ASEAN member states reached $128 billion during 2025-26, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said, as the two sides held a week of meetings on the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA) Review at Vanijya Bhawan, New Delhi, from 6 to 10 July 2026.
The 13th AITIGA Joint Committee meeting, the centrepiece of the week, was held on 7 July 2026 in hybrid format and co-chaired by Shri Nitin Kumar Yadav, Additional Secretary in India’s Department of Commerce, and Ms. Mastura Ahmad Mustafa, Deputy Secretary General (Trade) at Malaysia’s Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry. Delegations from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam attended.
On the sidelines, three of the Joint Committee’s eight Sub-Committees met: the Sub-Committee on Customs Procedures and Trade Facilitation, the Sub-Committee on National Treatment and Market Access, and the Sub-Committee on Rules of Origin. The ministry said these sessions helped deepen cooperation and advance dialogue between India and ASEAN.
The Joint Committee urged the Sub-Committees to expedite finalisation of the outstanding chapters under the AITIGA Review, setting time-bound deliverables to keep negotiations on schedule.
The ministry said ASEAN accounts for around 11 per cent of India’s global trade, and that the current trade volume reflects a strong economic partnership with further room to expand trade and investment cooperation.
