MBA And MCA Seats Fill Fast As Lucknow’s BBAU Sees Application Surge
Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Lucknow recorded 18,589 postgraduate applications for 2,611 seats this year, led by heavy demand for its MCA and MBA programmes.
Demand for professional postgraduate courses is driving a record admission cycle at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) in Lucknow, where the MCA programme alone drew 2,031 applications for just 60 seats.
The MBA programme was close behind, receiving 1,855 applications for 90 seats. ‘Our professional programmes continue to dominate student preference,’ said Prof Amit Kumar Singh, BBAU’s admission coordinator.
Those two courses helped push BBAU’s total postgraduate application count to 18,589 this year, across 55 programmes and 2,611 seats admitted through CUET-PG. That is the university’s highest application total in four years, up from 15,965 last year and around 15,000 in both 2023 and 2024.
The surge comes even as CUET-PG interest has cooled nationally. Singh said registrations for central universities fell from 5.5 lakh candidates last year to 3.5 lakh this year. ‘Despite this decline, applications to BBAU are showing an increasing trend,’ he said, describing the numbers as ‘really encouraging’ for the university.
Some BBAU courses are now attracting more than 40 applicants for every seat, making this year’s postgraduate admissions among the most competitive the university has seen in recent years.
