Chembur Hosts Free TB Health Camp for Women Waste Pickers Under BMC Scheme
Chembur's Fine Arts Cultural Centre hosted a free TB health camp for women waste pickers on July 7 under a joint BMC and Lok Bhavan scheme.
The Fine Arts Cultural Centre in Chembur, Mumbai, hosted a free health check-up and TB awareness camp for women waste pickers on July 7.
The camp was inaugurated by Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and launched together with the NAMASTE Scheme under the joint ‘TB Mukt Mumbai’ campaign run by Maharashtra Lok Bhavan and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Film star Jackie Shroff attended alongside the Governor, and the two distributed Ayushman Bharat Health Cards and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits to women waste pickers at the camp.
Present at the camp were Sushila Sable, Vice President of the International Alliance of Waste Pickers, and Asha Marathe, Corporator and Chairperson of the Ward Committee.
BMC’s Prajakta Lavangare Verma and Dr. Vipin Sharma, both Additional Municipal Commissioners, attended along with Dr. Kiran Dighavkar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner for Solid Waste Management.
Jyoti Mhapsekar, Dr. Prashant Narnaware, Secretary to the Governor, and women waste pickers from the Deonar area were also in attendance.
